I got a new (to me) tv today and am trying to use it as a second display for my windows 7 pc. It recognizes it in the Display settings and recognizes it as an audio output device yet the tv keeps displaying “check signalcable” and won’t output sound either.

It will however connect to my laptop using the same cable. It will also connect to my Xbox 360.

The pc will give output on my old tv, using the exact same setup and cable (as it has for the past years).

I tried turning down the Hz to 50Hz, restarting my pc, different HDMI ports on the tv and as I said, works fine on my ubuntu laptop and with the xbox..

I don’t know what to try anymore. Any suggestions?

Also, BIOS drivers are up to date, GPU drivers are not as anything beyond a certain update fucks up my MSI r9 270x (Don’t buy that piece of shit btw) but as it has happily displayed and output video using the same setup for years I don’t think this is the issue.

edit: Used a HDMI to DVI adapter and it works perfectly. Probably a HDCP issue. Thanks to everyone for your time!

Click on the little speaker in the bottom right of your screen. Click on “playback devices” then select “HDMI” or however it’s called as a primary device.

There you go sounds is on the TV now.

oups read too fast lol

For this one, just try with another cable... some cables just don’t work correctly with certain types of output...

I tried. No change. The cable is fine. It outputs the same exact signal fine to another tv and the cable works fine with my laptop and xbox.

Old/New TV sizes the same?

Are you duplicating screen output or using the TV as the sole output?

old tv 32" hd ready. New tv 40" full hd.

I’m extending the desktop. tried with duplicating but no difference.

The tv accepts 1920x1080p at 60hz from my laptop just fine.

Doesn’t recognizes the same input from my desktop.

Hmm. Will it do any smaller resolutions?

How many screens in total? Just two? Some video cards won’t support more than two (if you are trying to run 3).

this sounds like it may be an HDCP version issue. Does the new TV have a “computer” display mode? It might be buried in the setup menu somewhere... Many computer HDMI connections do not honor the full suite of HDCP security protocols and some TVs will refuse to display non-compliant content in regular operating modes... TVs that have this sort of high-security mode usually have a “computer” mode (which then disables many of the fancy video and audio features) to allow them to work.

The tv is a LE40C530 which should be HDCP compatible. And the graphics card is newer than the tv so it should not be a problem? right?

I think I might check and see if I can get it to work from a DVI port with an adapter.

I won’t do any resolutions. Just 2 screens. Exact same setup as it has run for a couple of years now.

Hum... The old TV had a smaller resolution though.. have you tried changing it for the TV? It might come from some kind of TV setup too, I remember a TV that needed to have its mode changed into something else in order to show the computer working.... Can’t remember the name of the mode though.

I did, I also just solved it. I got a HMDI to DVI adapter and that works. I’m assuming a HDCP issue was the cause.

If the set has DVI, using it will almost certainly solve your problem... Older HDMI devices were actually much fussier than most of the newer stuff.

Got a DVI adapter and that works like a treat!

Guessing it was a HDCP issue after all. Thanks!

Oh nice.... but you don’t have sound output over DVI though right?

I use a surround set anyway so sound via the tv was never an issue.

Yeah, I plugged the adapter in on the pc end where I had a spare DVI port. Still HDMI on the tv side, but it bypasses the HDCP stuff so now it works.
